This course will help students move away from thinking about ethics as episodic choice making in favor of character formation as key to living holy lives. Students will develop an understanding of the cyclical relationship between Christian vision of flourishing and the practical wisdom needed to navigate complex realities. In addition, they will develop an understanding of the cyclical relationship between spiritual practices, striving for moral excellence, and engaging constructively with conflict. Finally, they will explore different ways of thinking about the essential themes, teachings, and practices of Christian ethics from various liberative standpoints. As we navigate the development of a lived Christian ethics, we will tend to questions and expressions of formation, spirituality, and ministerial identity in the Anglican/Episcopal tradition(s).
